Perris. Calif.: Does the LIL WAYNE image on billboard encourage those under 21 years old to use cannabis? -Photo InterChurch News

The pot stores in Perris are the top local, single advertiser for Lamar billboards in 2020 -- so far. Positioned along the I-215 freeway Perris corridor, in March an InterChurch News hard count of cannabis ads found an astonishing 20 billboards along the north and southbound lanes that advertised cannabis shops -- all located in the Perris industrial park area.   

The cannabis signage has since simmered down. However, digital billboards, like the Lamar billboard above using the LIL WAYNE image near Ethanac Avenue -- can advertise seven or more different cannabis-related ads. 

Billboard ads must follow California Business and Professions Code regarding Cannabis Advertising and Marketing Restrictions, including:

  • All advertisements and marketing shall accurately and legibly identify the licensee and the licensee's license number
  • Cannabis-type ads can only be displayed where 71.6 percent of the audience is reasonably expected to be 21 years of age or older
  • Shall not advertise in a manner intended to encourage persons under 21 years of age to consume cannabis or cannabis products
  • Shall not publish advertising that is attractive to children
  • Shall not advertise or market cannabis or cannabis products on an advertising sign within 1,000 feet of a day care center, school providing instruction in kindergarten or any grades 1 to 12, inclusive, playground, or youth center 
  • Shall not advertise while the licensee's license is suspended

Crime Watch-Heritage Lake: Deputies make arrest 

On Sunday morning April 26, residents of Menifee's Heritage Lake community were alerted to a circling helipcopter near the main clubhouse area.

A Riverside County sherrif's helicopter was circling the Balboa Ct. area where a man (left) was being arrested by sherrif's deputies.

  

Crime Watch-Perris: Sheriff's handcuff, release man

On Monday morning, April 27, Riverside County Sheriff's deputies handcuffed a man (left) at the AM-PM Market located in Perris near Ethanac Road.  The unidentified man was released. A deputy stated to InterChurch News it was 'routine.' 

The deputy indicated to InterChurch News there has been an increase in 'routines' since the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.
