Salvation Mountain 

The late Leonard Knight's art received notoriety in 'Ripley's Believe It or Not,' 'California's Gold with Huell Howser,' and is entered into the Congressional Record as a national treasure. The 50-foot mountain of wood, straw and paint is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Palm Springs along the southeast side of the Salton Sea. Admission is free.
